Is a verbal binding?

Gary Parrish, the new college basketball columnist for CBS Sportsline, wrote a column today about the National Association of Basketball Coaches possibly enacting a rule that would prevent coaches from recruiting a player who has already given a verbal committment.

In other words, a rule to stop Kelvin Sampson from trying to recruit Eric Gordon. (The NABC, by the way, is the same group that took away Sampson’s Final Four tickets a few weeks ago).

Parrish, thankfully, points out that any such rule would be absurd. If the coaches really want to fix the seedy world of recruiting — which they don’t — there are about 100 other things they could do first.
