Lunch at Kelvin’s

At this point, there’s still no word from IU officials on the specifics for the Hoosier Hysteria event to tip-off the start of basketball practice Friday night. We know that doors are opening at 9 p.m. and we expect the women’s team to be playing around 10:15 p.m. and the men’s team around 11:30 p.m., but we’re waiting for confirmation from IU.

Maybe we’ll find out more this afternoon. Kelvin Sampson invited members of the media on a golf outing today at the IU golf course and to lunch afterward at his house. Chris and I didn’t participate in the golf this morning, but we’re meeting the group at the golf course in about an hour to head over to Sampson’s house. This is something new that we didn’t do with previous coaches, so I’m not sure what to expect.

I’m hoping we’ll get some basketball news during lunch. There isn’t going to be a Media Day for the basketball team like there has been in past years, so we won’t have the same opportunity to talk with team’s coaches and players at some length. What we’re apparently getting instead are some opportunities, typically announced to us the day they happen, to talk with a couple of players when they can fit that in between classes and individual workouts.

This should be an exciting week for Hoosiers fans as the start of practice approaches for Sampson’s first Indiana team. We’ll do our best to keep you updated throughout the week.

  1. So what did Kelvin serve for lunch? And the Peegs boards have been blowin up about Gordon rumors all day. Any comments?

  2. The lunch at coach Sampson’s house was catered by the convenience store that’s adjacent to Memorial Stadium. We had hamburgers, chicken fingers, scalloped potatoes. Nothing fancy, but good stuff. Quite a pleasant lunch, but nothing newsworthy to report from it.

As for the Gordon rumors, I don’t think we’re going to hear anything more than rumors right away. Chris has tried several times lately to get in touch with Eric Gordon Sr. without any success. It’s obvious the Gordons are keeping things quiet right now. As soon as we know anything more, we’ll report it.
