Gordon with 36 in opener

Eric Gordon’s first game of the season wasn’t too bad. All he did Wednesday night was score 36 points, including 22 in the second half, as his top-ranked North Central team defeated No. 2 Pike 77-73.

The Indiana recruit missed his first free throw and then hit 21 straight, according to The Indianapolis Star which covered the game between the two Indianapolis high schools. In the second half, Gordon was 5-of-5 from the field, 2-of-2 on 3s and 10-of-10 from the line. He even made the game’s decisive defensive play, the Star reported, swatting a potential game-winning 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left and then hit two free throws to put the game away.

Gordon finished 6-of-10 from the field, 3-of-4 on 3-pointers and 21-of-22 from the field.

Pike guard Jeff Teague, who chose Wake Forest over IU, had 33 points. He was 13-of-28 from the field, 2-of-7 on 3s and 5-of-7 from the line.
