Finch and Boyd commit to Hoosiers

In the biggest recruiting news to hit the Hoosier football program in many years, Warren Central football standouts Jerimy Finch and Jeff Boyd both gave Indiana verbal commitments Sunday evening.

Finch, a 6-foot-1, 203-pound safety, is rated the No. 1 player in-state player in the high school class of 2007 by Rivals.com. Boyd, a 6-3, 275-pound defensive end, is the No. 7 player in Indiana, according to Rivals.com.

Indiana has not been successful in landing the top in-state football players in recent years. Finch’s decision, after he had previously picked Michigan, could be a turning point for IU coach Terry Hoeppner’s recruiting.

We will provide a complete report on Finch’s and Boyd’s decisions in Monday’s H-T.

  1. Awesome news about the football program. The Hoosiers win on the road, the Colts get the Pats at the Hoosier Dome, and now this…what a great weekend to be an Indiana sports fan. Congratulations to Coach Hep and the staff. Go Hoosiers!

  2. Travis said it best, it was a great weekend to be an Indiana sports fan. I went up to watch the Warren Central and Carmel 5A high school championship game at the RCA Dome, and Finch is incredible. Not only did he play safety, he was also the punter and the kick returner! I assume this wont continue to IU, but he is obviously a very versitale player. I didnt see much of Boyd, but he sounds like he’ll have a big impact on the team. I dont know how coach Hep got these two to commit to IU instead of the schools they were recruited by. I hope it was legal.

  3. What does “I hope it was legal” mean? Are you inferring that Hep did something shady to get these 2? Why can’t it be just because they wanted to play at IU and IU did a great job recruiting them? That is ridiculous to insinuate that the only reason they committed was because of something illegal.

  4. Right on Matt. I doubt seriously that IU could match whatever Michigan was offering anyway……and I know we couldn’t match UK’s offer…..Just kidding.

  5. I think Hep has the program going in the right direction. This is huge for Indiana. Finch and Boyd are both monsters at football and their determination to put the IU program back on the map should surely be admired. As a Hoosier fan, I’m excited to see how Hep and his new recruits do next season.
    Go Hoosiers!
