  1. Apparently Sampson and his assistant’s can do no wrong because he never takes responsibility for anything. Poor game plan and poor adjustment to the rotten officiating.

Once again we had no strategy for ending the game. Too many players calling timeout unnecessarily.

The player rotation again was terrible. Shaw, Suhr, and Keeling should have played more minutes and Ben Allen should never see the court again. Allen has been completely lost this year does not deserve playing time.

Shaw and Keeling make freshmen mistakes once in awhile but they have greater effort and better understanding of the game and deserve more playing time.

It’s inexcusabe for Suhr to be on the bench when our guards are playing like crap.

The whole team looked like they were on Prozac.

I don’t appreciate Sampson’s casual attitude in a game we should have easily won. The hype about the Wisconsin game was just that HYPE, I was not at all impressed with Wisconsin and they have no business being in the top 10#.

Sampson seems to have already written this year off. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by anything. Maybe he’s waiting for Gordon to save the day next year because right now he’s just going through the motions.

  2. Wow, Mark. What a completely idiotic response. I don’t know what game you were watching, but I didn’t see a “casual attitude” by Coach Sampson, especially when he was ripping Earl and DJ. And why would Sampson be writing this year off? IU is 16-6. Nice overreaction to a Big Ten road loss. I hate to tell you this, but its going to happen again in the future. Brace yourself. Any way, tough game for IU, and I’m sure they will bounce back against Illinois.

  3. I’ve yet to see him or his staff take blame for anything. You obviously don’t read the H-T. He has a casual response to every loss.

The offense was just standing around just as they have for several games. No improvement.

None of the guards attempted to penetrate the lane with any consistency. It doesn’t require much work to stand outside and fling up threes. It takes work to drive the lane and generate fouls.

It takes work to set screens and move the ball. If the players on the court don’t listen to the coach then you sit their butts down, not whine about their performance.

  4. Well, Mark, with your vast knowledge of strategy and how to handle the media, I can’t help but wonder why you aren’t coaching D-1 College Basketball. Hmmmmmm…..

  5. Just because Sampson isn’t recruiting your favorite South Panther players doesn’t mean he is a terrible coach.

  6. Mitch, you’re an idiot.

Sampson is a great coach just has Hep is a great coach. The difference is Hep will admit when he and his staff have prepared poorly for a game.

  7. Not sure what was terrible in terms of game preparation. In your earlier post you state that the guard play was terrible. Well, to be honest, the guard play had absolutely nothing to do with the loss. Wilmont, Calloway, and Ratliff combined for 55 points. The reason for the loss was rebounding…plain and simple.

I’m not overly concerned about whether a coach admits anything, what I am more concerned with is how they coach the game. If you are concerned with his demeanor on the sideline then something is wrong. Do you want him launching into obscenity laced tirades during every time out or what? You also state that he has a casual attitude. Well it didn’t look very casual when he was screaming at Calloway and ‘nudging’ him in the chest during one sequence that comes to mind. Were you sitting the behind the bench listening to him? Otherwise I’m not sure you are qualified to say anything about his demeanor while most likely watching from your couch.

Also, Wisconsin doesn’t deserve to be in the top 10? Oh, I guess having 2 total losses and beating teams like Pittsburgh, Marquette, and Ohio State don’t mean too much do they Mark. Keep up the incredible work. Each of your new posts continue to amaze me. Toodles.

  8. I guess we’ll just see how well Wisconsin does in the NCAA tournament this year. I doubt that they will make it to the Sweet 16.

The last time I checked rebounding is an important aspect of the game so if the guards or anyone else on the team is not getting the job done, it’s the coaches job to make those adjustments, not whine about it afterwards.

I stand by my comments in Post #3.

  9. That’s fine, as long as you don’t stand by the comments in Post #1, because about 99% of that one was ridiculous.

As for Wisconsin, yes we will see if they get to the Sweet 16. I’d be willing to bet a lot on that.

Yeah rebounding is an important aspect. I also think the constant frenzy of fouls was something the players had to get used to. That probably made it tough to get aggressive especially on the road.
