Predictions for tonight’s game?

The biggest rivalry in the state of Indiana will take center-stage tonight when the Hoosiers and the Boilermakers square off in West Lafayette.

I saw the line somewhere had Purdue favored by 1.5 points. Obviously, this doesn’t sit well with people who observed IU’s dismantling of Purdue a couple weeks back in Assembly Hall.

So what do you think will happen tonight? Will the Hoosiers win? Will Matt Painter try and guard Earl Calloway himself? Will the Boilermakers avenge their loss?

Here are a few things I’m looking forward to tonight:

– Lance Stemler possibly breaking out of his shooting slump.
– How many times the commentators will reference the Calloway/Painter incident.
– On that note, what kind of cheers does Purdue’s student section have planned?
– Will Errek Suhr play meaningful minutes?
– Ben Allen exploding for 50?

Let me know what you think will happen tonight.

  1. The inside-outside duo of Kyle Taber and Adam Ahlfeld will be a little too much to handle for the Boilermakers. The duo’s athleticism and sheer talent will be overwhelming for Purdue, and I expect a 15 point win.

  2. Glenn, I just talked with Eliot Bloom, Purdue’s basketball sports information director, and he said the game is definitely still on for tonight.

We’re about to leave Bloomington to head up to West Lafayette. It sounds like we should have no trouble on the roads. One of our reporters, Steve Hinnefeld, just got back from Indianapolis and said roads are good between here and there. And Eliot Bloom said he just talked with the guys who deliver the basketball programs from a printer in Indianapolis and they reported that traffic is moving at normal speed on 65 between Indy and Lafayette.

  3. Predictions are impossible. This is Indiana-Purdue. Throw out the records, throw out the overall strength of the teams. It’s anybody’s guess who will come out on top tonight.

That said, I’m predicting Indiana by 5, after some clutch free throws at the end.

  4. Sagarin’s Predictor has IU 19 and Purdue 18 which means a win for Purdue — but that’s by the statistics. It’ll come down to who wants it more. Good old fashioned “leave it all on the floor” basketball. Should be a good game — one that melts the snow outside of Mackey.
