Kenny Kendal signs with Browns

It’s been bouncing around the boards over at Peegs and HoosierNation all day, and now it’s confirmed: former Indiana defensive end Kenny Kendal has signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns.

H-T sports editor and football beat writer Doug Wilson just spoke with Gary Kendal, who received a call from his son on Sunday. Kenny told his dad he hoped it was OK if he skipped his upcoming graduation since he needs to report to Browns camp later this week.

Mr. Kendal quickly forgot about the planned graduation celebration, saying “My wife had to pry me off the ceiling.”

  1. As a youth coach and high school football coach, I had the pleasure of watching Kenny grow in our program at Portage Park in Chicago and then become an outstanding player at Gordon Tech High School. I was fortunate enough to see him play at the college level both on TV and at live games when Indiana visited Illinois. I am thrilled for him that I now may get to see him on Sundays.
Another Portage Park player will be attending Indiana next year to play on their offensive line. I am proud to say that I coached him as the O-line coach and then was pleased to see him go to St. Patrick High School where he has progressed into a fine player.
