Ratliff is, in fact, ineligible

A.J. Ratliff, a senior guard on the Indiana men’s basketball team, will miss the team’s first nine games of the season because he is not academically eligible to play the first semester, head coach Kelvin Sampson said Saturday.

Ratliff, who was Mr. Basketball as a senior playing for North Central High School in Indianapolis, will miss games against Georgia Tech, Southern Illinois and Kentucky, among others. Ratliff will be eligible to return on Dec. 15 for Indiana’s game against Western Carolina at Assembly Hall.

Ratliff had surgery over the summer on his broken right wrist and also spent time rehabbing his left wrist after hurting it last season. Sampson said Ratliff is healthy and has been working out with the team. He will continue to practice and arrived at Assembly Hall shortly before 2 today to join the team for the first of 10 practices as it prepares to play four exhibition games in the Bahamas over Labor Day weekend.

  1. Glad to see he will only miss 8 games. Still, its pretty pathetic that a senior can’t get eligible. Hopefully, he decides to work harder. Good luck to AJ, and I can’t wait to see him back in uniform.
