Women’s Hoops in Paradise

Paradise Jam in the U.S Virgin Islands

Indiana will meet three teams in three days, beginning with a Thanksgiving Day matchup with Wake Forest (2-1). Friday’s contest will be against Wichita State (1-1) and the finale pits the Hoosiers against No. 11 Texas A&M (2-0). The first two games will be at 1 p.m. ET and the third at 3:30.

No, I did not make the trip due to a severe addiction to sunny beaches and pina coladas, but I know someone that did. You can catch the action on WHCC-FM 105.1 as the fearless Jeremy Gray of the IU Radio Network will be on hand at the Sports and Fitness Center on the campus of the University of the V.I.-St. Thomas.

IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack is clear that her players are not mature enough to approach the games as a three-game set or tournament setting, though it will be similar to the Big Ten and NCAA postseasons as far as a basketball crash course goes. The Hoosiers will play their games one at a time (this phrase never gets old), mentally reset, rest, eat, and come back for another. The team WILL NOT watch the other teams play but will instead focus on their own responsibilities.

However, Coach Jack conceded the troops ARE mature enough to enjoy a fantastic traveling opportunity to an exotic location, saying it’s part of the “holistic” part of being a student-athlete. Not only will the team spend Turkey Day together, they’ll get a chance to soak in their surroundings. The group departed Bloomington around 3 a.m. on Tuesday morning, so they had all day today on the island.

Said junior forward Whitney Thomas: “We’re going out there to play basketball and then have fun afterwards, and to have fun winning.”
