IU-Chicago State live updates

The starting line-ups are being announced in front of a relatively large Assembly Hall crowd. The main sections are mostly full and there’s still a good number of fans up in the balcony.

Armon Bassett, in his first game back after serving a three-game suspension, is back in the starting line-up. He joins Eric Gordon, Mike White, Jamarcus Ellis and D.J. White for the Hoosiers.

Eli Holman has joined A.J. Ratliff in street clothes on the bench. Neither will play tonight.

We’re set for the tip.

The game starts out pretty perfect for IU fans.

On the first possession, D.J. White converts a three-point play. The next, Eric Gordon sinks a deep three-pointer. After a Chicago State miss, Armon Bassett drains a long bomb from the corner.

9-0, IU. Just like that. Looks like it will be a long night for the Cougars.

A three-pointer by Kevin Jones of Chicago State stops the bleeding. It’s 11-3 Hoosiers with nearly four minutes in.

But IU, unlike last week’s sluggish start against Coppin State, has come to play.

An inside look to D.J. White drew a foul. David Holston, the Cougars’ best player, apparently didn’t like the call and argued with a referee, drawing a technical foul.

After the sets of free throws and another Eric Gordon three, it’s 17-3.

Holston is good. He’s looking to shoot the deep ball any chance he can get, and hit another one to give the Cougars their second basket. Mike White got his first points on the other end, however. 19-6 Hoosiers.

White made his presence known on the next possession as well. He swatted away a Cougar shot to the delight of the Hoosier faithful. He was just replaced by Lance Stemler and received a nice applause from the IU fans.

Jordan Crawford’s three from the right wing (the fourth for IU as team already) extends the lead to 22-6.

Armon Bassett wants some too. Off a tough offensive rebound from DeAndre Thomas, Bassett nails another from the corner. 25-6.

Lance Stemler’s hustle is not hard to notice. He’s just forced two jump balls, and on IU’s ensuing possession, Lance Stemler gives IU its six three-pointer of the contest and a whopping 28-6 lead.

David Holston continues to fight for his open looks. At 5-foot-8, it’s not easy, but he’s making progress. He just drained his second from downtown for the Cougars’ third field goal of the game (all three-pointers).

After two Eric Gordon free throws at the other end, it’s 30-9.

IU just continues to enforce their will on every aspect of the game. D.J. White converts his second three-point play of the night and it’s 35-11.

D.J. White follows a missed Eric Gordon three and drops it in for another Hoosier bucket. Two possessions later, Eric Gordon is fouled on a move to the basket.

Chicago State now has as many fouls as they do points (11).

D.J. White already has a double-double with more than four minutes remaining in the first half. He’s got 10 points to go along with his 10 boards.

It’s 42-14 with 3:39 left in the first. The Hoosiers are up 28 points. For those of you out there wondering, the biggest margin of victory for IU in history is 56. Could it happen tonight? Maybe. Depends on how long Sampson leaves his big dogs in the game. 56 is a lot of points though.

A Jordan Crawford steal gives the Hoosiers a 48-19 lead. After a Cougar turnover, Kelvin Sampson calls time to draw up a play with 25.9 seconds left.

Armon Bassett’s bid to get the Hoosiers to 50 hits the back iron and rims off. They’re still sitting pretty comfortable though. It’s 48-19 at the half.
