IU to play in Lexington next year

Here’s a little more detail on the news about IU and Kentucky keeping their basketball series on campus the next two years.

IU Senior Associate Athletic Director Tim Fitzpatrick said late this afternoon that Indiana and Kentucky have come to a verbal agreement for the 2008 game to be in Lexington and the 2009 game in Bloomington. The change is being made, he said, because Kentucky doesn’t have access any longer to Freedom Hall in Louisville on the second Saturday in December, when the game is traditionally played.

THAT’S why they changed? They couldn’t just, you know, move it to Sunday or some other Saturday? I’m glad the game is a true home game now, don’t get me wrong, but that seems like a pretty weak excuse.
I guess it makes sense, though. The girls I asked out in high school always seemed to be busy during the weekend. Every weekend. Man, they must have been really busy!
Freedom Hall must be busy, too. That, or Kentucky has bad acne, plays too many video games, and smells a little like Doritos all the time.

  2. Swampy, I should have worded that differently. I think Tim Fitzpatrick was saying that it’s not just for that specific date, but for that general time period that Freedom Hall isn’t available. Besides sports events, I think it gets booked with trade shows that last multiple days.
