Half-time thoughts

Eric Gordon shoots a 3.

Like Kelvin Sampson thought, Penn State is putting up a fight.

A Lance Stemler 3-pointer in the final few minutes gives Indiana a 37-34 lead. He’s definitely shooting those with confidence.

It’s the defense that’s getting them into trouble this afternoon. The Nittany Lions have hit deep shot after deep shot, going 6-8 from behind the arc, and that is what’s keeping it close. Talor Battle, a 5-11 freshman guard for Penn State, leads them with 11 points and has hit 3-4 from behind the 3-point line.

One thing to point out is Eric Gordon is doing all of his damage from the perimeter. His 12 points came off of four 3-pointers, and his only other field goal attempt came from less than a foot inside the arc. For some reason, he’s not using his athleticism to drive to the basket like he usually does. I would expect to see him attacking the basket more often in the second half and take advantage of the smaller Nittany Lion guards.

Gordon’s also leading the team in rebounds with four.
