The bills for outside counsel to help Indiana University handle allegations of NCAA rule violations committed by Kelvin Sampson and his staff have exceeded $203,000 through March.
The legal bills were obtained Wednesday by The Herald-Times through a public records request. IU has not yet been billed for continuing legal work beyond March.

They include: (1) the Indianapolis Ice Miller law firm billing the IU athletic department $178,084 for 617 hours of work between July 2007 and March 2008 at rates ranging from $215 to $445 per hour, and (2) the Overland Park, Kan. law firm of Bond, Schoeneck & King billing IU for $24,989 for services in May 2006 relating to charges against Sampson and his staff at Oklahoma that the NCAA was investigating when IU hired Sampson in late March 2006.
