IU to submit NCAA response Friday

Indiana athletic department spokesman J.D. Campbell said the department plans to submit its response to the NCAA’s “failure to monitor” charge Friday.

Indiana was originally supposed to turn the document over to the committee on infractions last week, but was given a mysterious nine-day extension.

IU’s response likely will not become a public record until the NCAA has had time to distribute it to all committee members for review.

The committee must rule on the failure to monitor charge — which was added after IU had its original hearing — before releasing its full public report on the five major violations IU and former coaches Kelvin Sampson and Rob Senderoff are charged with committing.

No timetable for a release of that report has been announced.
