IU women outside looking in?

That’s the prediction of two “bracketologists” right now, and with only a few conference tournaments remaining, not much is likely to change.

Both ESPN.com’s Charlie Creme and CollegeRPI.com’s Jerry Palm list the Hoosiers as one of the last four teams out of the field of 64. That means the Hoosiers are close enough that the committe could surprise the experts, but it looks like heartbreak. Both men have five teams getting in from the Big Ten, with Minnesota one of the last four in the tournament. IU (19-10) and Minnesota (19-11) tied at 11-7 in the Big Ten, but the Gophers won the only head-to-head matchup in Minneapolis.

Other tournaments haven’t gone IU’s way either with third-seeded Charlotte a surprise winner in the Atlantic 10 and Central Florida winning Conference USA as a five seed. That’s at least one and maybe two spots lost that might have gone to IU.

The NCAA women’s selection show airs Monday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Indiana fans are invited to a selection show party with the team at Coaches Bar & Grill from 6-8 p.m. Monday night.

  1. The losses to last place Illinois are going to be the real killers. Team looked so good against rival Purdue and then stunk up the place against the Illini.

  2. While the team did a great job, they really did not reach their goals if they miss the tournament. I’d hope the team would be sorely disappointed and use it as motivation to reach their goal next year. I like how Coach Jack has brought the expectation of resarching higher goals.
