Oh, Rivals.com. Always have to be just a little bit bigger than Scout.com.
So when one recruiting site (Scout) released its top 75 earlier, the other (Rivals) came out with a top-100 for the class of 2011.
And the lists are different. Boy, are they different. Just look at the Indiana targets.
MARQUIS TEAGUE, INDIANAPOLIS PIKE — No. 2 overall
BRANDEN DAWNSON, GARY WALLACE — No. 26
MARSHALL PLUMLEE, ARDEN CHRIST SCHOOL (ASHEVILLE, N.C.) — No. 47
CHASSON RANDLE (ROCK ISLAND, ILL.) — No. 42
MATT CARLINO (BLOOMINGTON SOUTH) — Not ranked
AUSTIN ETHERINGTON (HAMILTON HEIGHTS) — Not ranked
CODY ZELLER (WASHINGTON) — Not ranked
JEREMIAH DAVIS (MUNCIE CENTRAL) — No. 76
DENG LEEK (GREENSBORO VERITAS CHRISTIAN (N.C.) — No. 71
Carlino, Etherington and Zeller were all in the Scout.com top 75. Davis and Leek were not.The sites agree on a No. 1 (Michael Gilchrist). And both James McAdoo and Austin Rivers (brother of IU guard Jeremiah) are in the top-five for both. But the other two spots are up for grabs amongt four kids (including Teague).
I know this is a bold statement but this might turn out to be the deepest class in Indiana high school basketball history as well as the rest of the nation. There are simply to many players to watch.
which site is the most accurate? Rivals seems to be harder on kids than scout, always! I wonder, say the past 5 years, which site is more accurate in the end.
J Pat,
I’ve always felt Rivals was better for basketball and Scout was better for football.
I think I remember you saying that a while back, thanks.
What’s the over/under on how high Carlino moves up the list after 1 year at BHSS? I’m guessing it won’t take long for his stock to soar once he establishes himself as a star in two of the nation’s premier programs (BHSS & IN Elite).
Ranking big men like Zeller at this age is akin to reading tea leafs, it’s so speculative & involves 1/2 proven talent & 1/2 potential. With their constantly changing bodies, you’re never sure how the agility will catch up with the physical attributes.
One thing that’s consistent between the two lists is Marquis Teague’s spot near the top. Does anybody have any read on what kind of chance IU stands of getting him?
I think it’s somewhere between a 14% to 15% chance.
Hey you missed one in Rivals.com
Dee Davis #72 (Bloomington)
South fan,
Dee Davis doesn’t belong in this conversation.
This list is for recruits that Indiana (IU) is targeting. Davis is going to Xavier, therefore he is not included in a discussion about IU recruits.
Since we are talking about IU recruits…Any word on Maurice Creek. The SAT scores have been out since last Thursday.
how can etherington be ranked 56 on scout and not ranked in the rivals top 100 ?
