What the mocks say

It would be fair to say that the level of intrigue for today’s MLB Draft is a mere pittance as compared to the NFL or NBA Drafts. It’s been only in the past few years that the draft was televised at all, and the league had to create its own cable network in order to insure primetime coverage.

You can watch the draft’s first three rounds at 6 p.m. today on the MLB Network. For those of you without the network (and shame on you, because it is Awesome with a capital A), you can follow MLB.com’s DraftTracker.

The Hoosier Scoop will be paying attention, for three Hoosiers could see their professional future decided today. Pitchers Eric Arnett and Matt Bashore, and catcher Josh Phegley are all considered top prospects.

This is a fairly big deal, since the last Hoosier to be selected in the draft’s first round was Kevin Orie in 1993 (No. 29 overall, to the Chicago Cubs). He played 316 games in the Major Leagues, with a lifetime .249 batting average.

And, like the NBA and NFL drafts, the internet has been kind enough to grace us with more mock drafts than we know what to do with. Here’s four of the more respected ones, along with what they’re saying about the Hoosiers.
