  2. We should have lost this game by maybe 5 points. Once again, Hulls is thrown into the game after it’s a lost cause. We have too much sloppy, out of control play, by this team. It reminds me of the poor coaching we got from Mike “I don’t know crap about basketball” Davis.

What you lose with Hulls handling some defensive assignments is more than made up with his KNOWLEDGE of the game and his ability to put the ball into the hands of the people who need it.

Game after game, we have the same issues: Poor free throw shooting, Poor out of control ball handling, Poor recognition of what is happening in the game. This STUPID strategy to take the ball inside against the tallest team in the NCAA is a COACHING error.

We have a very talented team that is once again being poorly coached. No passing game AT ALL. ALL of these players need to be FORCED to watch several Bloomington South games from last year and this year or any year and just maybe they will learn that it’s not the biggest or fastest team that WINS, it’s the most intelligent team with the ball.

I don’t care how well Crean can recruit, he will NEVER win at any level without teaching the fundamentals of the game. All I see is one-on-one playground bullsh_t and no concept of team play.

  3. And we were supposed to beat the number 4 team in the nation by how many points in year two of a TOTAL rebuilding of the team? What the heck to you expect bud? And where do you get this talent evaluation of yours? We have a good batch of FRESHMEN and that is about it (aside from Rivers). UK has probably the closest thing to a pro team that we have seen in college basketball in quite some time. Stop acting like we were ranked 5th in the nation and just lost to friggin North Dakota State.

  4. They probably are a Pro Team, we just don’t know how much they get paid until it falls out of an envelope.

This is a good team but low expectations will result in unacceptable results, losing.

  5. I KNOW THAT KENTUCKY HAS MORE TALENTED PLAYERS THAN WE DO BUUUTT,WE WERE IN THIS GAME AT HALFTIME AND THEN FOR SOME REASON WE FORGOT HOW TO BLOCK—-OUT.

I’M THANKFUL THAT WE HAVE COACH CREEN AND IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE OUR TEAM IS PREPARED TO BEAT TEAMS OF THIS CALIBER.

  6. We should have lost this game by 30…Not 5. Unrealistic expectations for a team full of freshman almost 10 games into the season.

Obviously, you are biased against Hulls, because Rivers is a much better floor general at this point in time. He may at times have the need to force the ball up there, but I am happy with him.

You do realize that Calipari has probably one of the best recruiting classes of all time quality wise? This isn’t Longwood University or anything. This is a team that has SCARY potential. At least 5 NBA prospects and probably more.

As for free throw shooting, Capo really made me want to throw something. He missed about 5 straight at one point.

The ball handling is NOT out of control. I wish we had Darren Collison as a PG, but we do not. These people are inexperienced at handing the ball, and will continue to get better. Expecting to perform at a Collison level is way to unrealistic. This isn’t magic.

What do you expect Crean to do, ignore his inside game? If he totally abondons it, you have Kentucky only caring about the outside shooters. THE INSIDE GAME OPENS UP THE PERIMETER.

I am happy that we didn’t get blown out, and I was very happy with Creek, who carried the entire team. Watford had a tough game, and if he had had a good game as well, this is an entirely different outcome.

  7. Once again, the other team makes changes and adapts at halftime while we come out flat. That is just flat out being outcoached. We cannot win playing this small ball style either. We need to recruit a Center.
Rivers has some flashes , but he just isn’t very good. We need to get Hulls as many minutes as possible. He is fundamentally sound and he is our future. Pat Knight and Steve Alford are a combined 18-0. They know how to play the game. Do you think we could lure won in next year to turn around this program and play the style IU was built on?

  8. I was waiting for the CBS announcers to crawl into bed with the KY team, they were clearly in love with them. Sort of a Brokeback Hillbilly moment…

  9. stevealford – Absolutely agree!!

I don’t dislike Tom Crean because he does many things well. However, I do watch tendencies and Crean seems to have bought into this idea that emulating the NBA in the NCAA is a good thing and I disagree. It’s ruined what makes college basketball great.

Rivers should be the 2nd guard with Hulls feeding him the ball at the right time. However, Rivers and most of the rest of them need to learn how to pass the ball with speed and understanding of WHY you move the ball around. Find the open shooter and pull the trigger.

  10. Back2Basics:

    You are delusional.

As a team Indiana shot 47% from the field and had a total of just 9 turnovers.

Rivers and Jones, the two players Hulls would most directly compete with for playing time, had 10 assists against 1 turnover.

Hulls had no assists in 14 minutes of play.

  11. You’ve got to be kidding me. Do either of you remember a year and change ago when our team consisted of Kyle Taber and Brett Finkelmeier? With 15 minutes left, we were beating a team that has a very, very good shot to win a national championship. To even talk about replacing Crean after less than two years is purely moronic and stupid. NEWSFLASH: The reason we don’t play like Indiana of old is because our team got destroyed two years ago! Show some patience. Jesus.

  12. You couldn’t be more WRONG Back2Stupidity… Hulls is sometimes ineffective because the rest of the team has NO IDEA how to pass the ball faster than a turtle in slow motion. Instead we get stuff like, “well, I don’t know what else I can do with the ball so I’ll just chuck it up there ANY TIME I damn well please.”

That my clueless friend, is Mike Davis basketball!

  13. This team is rebuilding. this was a great game by the hoosiers. they got outplayed for about 10 minutes by the number 4 team in the country. If you think STEVE ALFORD could coach this team better you are ridiculous!!!!! Crean is building this team for the future! he’s gonna make IU a Big East Caliber team, not a Little Ten Caliber team.

  14. Downing: Thought I’d share a recipe with you:

    In a large saucepan, combine:

    10 Eric Gordons, ripened
    2 heaping tablespoons of confidence
1/2 cup of clutch shooting ability
1/4 cup non-free throw scoring powder
    -dash of ghetto swagger
    -blue food coloring

Bring ingredients to a rolling boil. Stir until smooth.

What do you get? John Wall

  15. UK fan here, I wanted to say IU played a great game! If the IU team 7 games ago would have played us today, the score would have been 100 to 45. You have come a long way and should be very proud.

Kentucky is the largest team in NCAA. Has the number 1 draft pick, one top ten, and one top twenty pick. Four others will play in NBA the following year, yet IU was right there with us, matching shot for shot for the first 30 minutes.

You played very well. The key will be to bring that everytime, even when your not playing a final four team.

    Good Job IU!

  16. Rebuilding,
I believe you have been brainwashed by Crean. You are just regurgetating the same old excuses I hear time and time again from him.
I am tired of excuses and hearing about D Wade all the time.

  17. WOW STEVE ALFORD. WHAT DO YOU HONESTLY EXPECT FROM 5 FRESHMAN AND A COUPLE SOPHOMORES?????? KENTUCKY HAS THE NUMBER 1, 2, AND 5 PROSPECTS IN THE COUNTRY AND WE PLAYED JUST AS WELL AS THEM FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES TONIGHT!! WE WERE 6-25 LAST YEAR. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE 7 WINS BEFORE JANUARY!!!!!!!! YOU NEED TO HAVE SOME PATIENCE AND REALIZE THAT YOU CANT WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP WITH ONE RECRUITING CLASS.

  18. I expect to make the NCAA tournament. Teams as young as us do it all the time. Now usually they are well coached teams, but we will have to overcome that. 7-5 does not excite me the way it does you obviously, and that would require us to win our next 3 games which unfortunately won’t happen. It is really sad that the fans of this great institution have learned to accept and even embrace this poor level of play. It is truly embarrasing.

  19. Tom-

Very clever post. I think you just made crack.

Did your Huskies play today? …4 Cups of Overrated? DO NOT bring to a BOIL…ermaker?

  20. Downing- I said to myself, “I bet Downing, instead of addressing my post directly, is going to brign up the Huskies.” Recrimination as a substitute for an argument.

    Overrated?

Talk to me in 6 weeks and I’ll answer that question.

  21. Sorry, Tom. Not in the mood….I’m being accused of things here that have taken the wind out of my sails..The words aren’t flowing anymore and the heart is in my gut. The fun is gone. The fight is gone. As you can see, I’m lost for words.

  22. “It’s just a different feeling,” the star middle linebacker said during an interview that aired Sunday on the Bears Gameday Live pre-game show on Fox. “I don’t feel like I’m doing anything, so I’m kind of in the way.” Brian Urlacher

  23. You’ll be fine. Get some rest and come back with a a vengeance.

I benched Matt Forte, finally. I have Knowshon Moreno starting in his place. If Forte suddenly figures out how to run behind that patchy O-line, I will be fuming.
