  1. Given all the problems at USC right now this is a rather puzzling decision. I personally would want to steer clear of all that mess. Its probably going to get worse before it gets better.

  2. Dear Jio Fontan:

Welcome to USC. We’re on self-imposed probation, but the NCAA may not be done with us yet. Thanks for playing. Here’s your sign!

    USC athletic department.

  3. Hank and GFDave, I agree! Why would he go to USC given all that is going on at USC these days? I assume there were LOTS of schools that would have given this kid a schollie… That said, FWIW, I’d rather have Echenique (I hope I spelled that right, if I did not, I am sure 10 people will take pleasure in correcting me) than Fontan…

  4. It should be noted that Fontan’s commitment was originally reported by the L.A. Times on Christmas Day. The sanctions came down on Jan. 3. Not saying there hasn’t been smoke around the program since Tim Floyd left, but just for clarification.

  5. Agreed this is one of the rare times that I am glad a recruit passed on us. While he may end up being a good Div 1 player we need a highly talented big or two before we need one more good guard. If we sign another guard it had better be someone of Selby’s abilities if not go get us a nonproject big Tom.
