A group of games so bad IU-Akron was the best of the bunch

The week five (Sept. 25) TV/kickoff announcement is out, and Akron at Indiana will be the Big Ten Network’s primetime (7 p.m.) game.

Good for fans, since it increases tailgating time. Bad for us, because we have a thing called deadline. But, alas, it is what it is and night games are always more enjoyable to watch for whatever reason.

But what is interesting is that a matchup that was a rout last season was considered the best primetime option this year. Look at the rest of the matchups, though, and you see why:

  • Bowling Green at Michigan, ESPN or ESPN2, noon ET
  • Ball State at Iowa, Big Ten Network, noon ET
  • Northern Colorado at Michigan State, Big Ten Network, noon ET
  • Toledo at Purdue, Big Ten Network, noon ET
  • Central Michigan at Northwestern, noon ET
  • Austin Peay at Wisconsin, noon ET
  • Eastern Michigan at Ohio State, ABC, 3:30 p.m. ET
  • Temple at Penn State, Big Ten Network, 3:30 p.m. ET
  • Akron at Indiana, Big Ten Network, 7 p.m. ET
  • Northern Illinois at Minnesota, Big Ten Network, 8:30 p.m. ET

Yikes. If the Big Ten does not go 10-0 on Sept. 25, Tim Brewster is so fired.

  1. Northern Illinois – Minnesota could be a close game, as could Bowling Green – Mich and Austin Peay -Wisc. You never know how Mich and Wisc are going to play early in the season.

  2. I would have to say that Penn State-Temple is the most intriguing matchup given the fact that they are in the same state, and Temple has improved a great deal in the last couple of years. However, they are all indeed piss poor matchups, and I will gladly take the opportunity to watch IU play in primetime.

  4. pbat,

I was just going to say the same thing. With the exception of MSU and Wisconsin’s games, it is all Big Ten vs. MAC. I wouldn’t be surprised if NIU or CMU pull upsets.

  5. Hugh, I was just asking game time and was confusing 2 games, that’s all. At the same time when you start like you did about kickoff announcement coming out, it makes it sound like it was just decided…
