Indiana 67, Evansville 54

Indiana overcame a six-point halftime deficit to beat Evansville 67-54 on Sunday.

The Hoosiers improved to 4-0 on the season. They’ll face North Carolina Central on Tuesday.

Maurice Creek scored 19 points, 17 in the second half, to lead the comeback.

He drained three 3-pointers and also was 3-of-3 at the free-throw line as IU took the lead at 40-39, with 15:12 remaining in the game.

Verdell Jones scored 18, 13 of which came during a first half that saw the Hoosiers struggle on both ends of the floor.

Evansville led 31-25 at half, outrebounding Indiana (14-11) and forcing 12 Indiana turnovers. But the Aces could not keep up with the Hoosiers during the second half, and did not score from 16:05 until 8:17.

Tom Pritchard had a really nice game defensively, with eight rebounds and five blocks. The blocks were a career-high for the junior forward.

Derek Elston dressed but did not play. Instead, when Pritchard and Bobby Capobianco were forced to the bench during the first half with three personal fouls each, walkon Jeff Howard played six minutes.

  1. Tom Pritchard= 8 pts on 4/5 shooting, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks….. as Hoagland and I were trying to tell you guys, don’t count the guy out.

  2. great job by the team and coaching to keep the teach in the game. the team did not fold after the terrible first half. we are not a great team by any means, but we are showing progress. keep at it guys

  3. Pritch seems to be rediscovering his touch around the basket; he loves the little reverse layup and does them quite well. His free throws looked awful.

They key is for him to carry his attacking, aggressive mentality into Big 10 play, and not turn in to Kyle Taber like he did last year.

  4. Pritch was SOLID today, I will give him his props. He was solid because he was agressive, he acted as if he cared. However, I still want more, hurt hand and all, from a 3rd year kid that gets the minutes he does. Lastly, in similar words of 4G…Let’s see how The Pritch plays vs Big 10 talent. I actually want to eat some Pritch crow. Game was fun to watch…4 and 0 baby and the recruits keep on coming. GO IU and great job Coach Crean!!!

  5. Let’s not forget that Creek looks like he took a huge step towards coming back. He was really moving well away from the ball, finding his spot and stroking the open shots. I didn’t get a chance to see the other 3 games, but he looked good to me today.

  6. DD, after what we saw and didn’t see at Hysteria, if you had told me that Maurice would be at this point this quickly I would have bet everything I had against it. His improvement is amazing.

    Nice Game guys.

  7. Kevin, thanks for the eyes on account. I love Maurice’s game and had no idea how his progression was looking apart from the stat sheet and what people were saying here. I hope he continues!
