Video: Lyles, Thompson in action

Here is video of Trey Lyles and P.J. Thompson from Friday. Lyles is a 6-foot-9 forward for Indianapolis Tech (green jersey) that is, of course, an IU commit. Thompson is a 5-8 point guard for Brebeuf (white) that is receiving interest from Indiana.

Tim Buckley was at the game and left during the first half, but Tom Crean arrived shortly thereafter.

I was really impressed with both players. Tech had problems getting Lyles the ball for long stretches, but he did not force the issue and clearly has an advanced offensive game. I told Dustin that if he grows another couple of inches Dirk Nowitzki is a fair comparison for his game; he’s a big that is fluid enough and has a good enough jump shot to pull out defenders to the perimeter and do damage there.

The biggest thing about Thompson is that his teammates trust him, and he trusts himself. You’ll see footage at the end of Brebeuf trying to hold onto a lead and his teammates clearly wanted Thompson to have the ball. He needs to grow, but he seems to play with a good motor, has a solid handle and understands the mental aspect of playing point guard.

  1. If there is a kid that IU should be recruiting that will be a glue piece to the Lyles Blackmon puzzle it is PJ Thompson. He is smart on and off the court, tough, and you won’t find a better competitor. I hope IU doesn’t let him get away.
