STARTING FIVE

1. INDIANA BASKETBALL

In the postgame Q&A, I discuss Verdell Jones’ minutes, Will Sheehey’s impact and the transition defense.

The McDonald’s All-American Game rosters will be released today, and Cody Zeller is expected to be among the selections. Inside the Hall compiled a list of the other burger boys who ended up at Indiana.

2. OTHER INDIANA SPORTS

Indiana wrestler Matt Powless (No. 9 in the nation at 197 pounds) is a very cerebral, intense guy who altered his mental approach during the offseason and has found more success, Dustin wrote.

The Indiana women are looking to end their nine-game losing streak against an Illinois team with its own issues, Jeremy wrote. Grace Calhoun, an associate AD for academic and student engagement who served a critical role in compliance during the Kelvin Sampson case, is leaving Indiana for the AD job at Loyola (Chicago).

3. BIG TEN BASKETBALL

Wisconsin survived a pre-Ohio State game at Iowa, fighting to send the gave into overtime and then getting some key shooting in the extra period, Madison.com’s Rob Schultz wrote. There was absolutely no talk of a moral victory in the Iowa locker room, the Iowa City Press-Citizen’s Pat Harty wrote.

Michigan is talking about a run to the NCAA Tournament, and beating Northwestern at home was then a must-win, AnnArbor.com’s Michael Rothstein wrote. Northwestern’s own Tournament hopes dimmed, the Chicago Tribune’s Teddy Greenstein wrote.

A losing culture has taken hold at Champaign and that has played a significant role in what has happened to the Illini, the Champaign News-Gazette’s Paul Klee wrote. Minnesota is also struggling, and there are five points of emphasis entering today’s game, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Myron P. Medcalf wrote.

Michigan State is trying to get its edge back, the Lansing State Journal’s Denny Schwarze wrote. Penn State is expecting the Spartans to start playing like a typical Tom Izzo-coached team, the Daily Collegian’s Jared Shanker wrote.

4. SOMETHING TO READ

Pitchers and catchers start reporting to spring training this weekend. So while I try to figure out how the Braves can trade for Michael Young without giving up any current starter, you can check out the excellent Joe Posnanski’s musings on what makes a Hall of Fame pitcher.

Like just about anything Posnanski does on his blog, its incredibly detailed and well-researched. Well worth your time as you get ready for the 11 a.m. chat.

5. ONE FOR THE ROAD

Gaslight Anthem’s “Miles Davis and the Cool.”
