STARTING FIVE

1. INDIANA BASKETBALL

Indiana and Purdue continue to pile up early commitments — a sign of how much fervor there is for basketball in the state, Dustin wrote. Hanner Perea is just the latest IU commit to play in-town, Andy wrote.

2. INDIANA FOOTBALL

Bill Lynch is headed to Butler — as a lead fundraise in the title of associated AD for development, Dustin wrote.

3. BIG TEN BASKETBALL

Lewis Jackson sparked Purdue to a win against Wisconsin, the Lafayette Journal & Courier’s Jeff Washburn wrote. Wisconsin had its chances but missed too many open 3-pointers, Madison.com’s Rob Schultz wrote.

Illinois got a game it needed against Michigan, the Champaign News-Gazette’s Paul Klee wrote. Stu Douglass just missed a runner at the buzzer, AnnArbor.com’s Michael Rothstein wrote.

Minnesota has to contend with Talor Battle tonight, who has scored a third of Penn State’s points during Big Ten play, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Myron P. Medcalf wrote.

Iowa is looking for a measure of revenge tonight against Northwestern, the Iowa City Press-Citizen’s Pat Harty wrote.

4. WE WON SOME AWARDS

The Herald-Times won six awards during the APSE contest this week. It is a national competition, with entries divided into circulation categories.

The website (including this place) was previously named a top-10 website, and the H-T added top-10 daily and Sunday section to that.

Individually, Dustin took home a top-10 in breaking news (for the story of Bill Lynch’s firing). I was top-10 in column writing, and Jeremy top-10 in explanatory (for a story on ACL injuries in young athletes). And Chris Howell was top-five for his documentary series on the Bloomington South basketball team.

Kudos to the guys, who do great work.
