Hollowell to announce decision Thursday

Lawrence Central swingman and Indiana target Jeremy Hollowell will announce his college decision Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at his school, his coach J.R. Shelt confirmed via text message Tuesday morning.

Hollowell, the No. 39 rated player in the Class of 2012, said last week he had narrowed his choices to four schools —Indiana, Ohio State, Purdue and Cincinnati — and that he wanted to make a decision before the beginning of the AAU season. CBSSports.com is reporting that Hollowell is expected to choose Indiana.

  1. I guess it’s the way of the world now but I remember when kids wanted to get recruiting out of the way before school started or before their High School seasons started so that they wouldn’t be distracted. Now it appears that they don’t want to be distracted during their AAU seasons. Oh well…If the kid can play I’m glad to have him along with his set of priorities.

  2. Never seen Hollowell play but his build looks a lot like Buford for OSU. I’ll be real happy if his game is also similar. Not sure Hollowell has the same vertical game. Hope this doesn’t deter Harris.

Did Pearl have any big men coming in we could get in on?

  3. I thought IU had used up the available scholarships for 2012. Is this Michel’s scholarship they’re offering? Did someone de-commit? Sorry I’m a little out of the loop, I’ve often had to think about things other than IU basketball the last few weeks, to avoid falling into despair, so I may have missed some things.

  4. STLBAM – Tennessee has a 2 guard who already asked for his release and a 5’10” PG from Memphis that changed schools in Jan so nothing we would go after I don’t think

Have seen JH play in person several times. Good shooter, but tends to float and disappear at times. Would be interesting to see if his game is different at AAU level where he players with better players.

  5. Eric,
If Hollowell were to commit, IU would be one over the scholarship limit for 2012-13. Obviously, they are allowed one oversign, but yes, if Hollowell commits, someone has to either transfer, de-commit or — and I have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to suggest this might happen — reclassify by the season opener of 2012-13.

  6. Seen JH play several times. I agree with the previous post. He tends to float quite a bit and settle for long 3-pointers. Just an OK shooter. Would like to see him be more assertive. He played with some decent talent and I didn’t really see him making them better. Not sure if he fits into CTC’s system as he is not an explosive athlete. Reminds me of a poor mans Jay Edwards. Silky smooth but doesn’t seem like he is working hard. Gary Harris seems to be a better fit.

  7. eric – below are the rosters by year for what we have today. tbd assumes a 4 year player is signed in April. Assumes nobody leaves and Roth plays 5th year. To get from 16, You have to assume Roth and 2 others do not stay for 2012-2013

  8. If Coach Crean wants him and thinks he’s a fit for our team, then let him come. If he hates to lose and will do what it takes to win, let him come.

  9. Thank you Dustin and Charles for the detailed answers. I was worried that someone had decommitted. What an incredible luxury it will be to have Zeller, Jurkin, Perea and a host of 6’6″-6’7″ players to work with. Plus some terrific guards. If Hollowell is as good as his ranking, I see no reason not to add him to the team. Knock on wood for an IU victory Thursday!

  10. Whether you believe Crean is a good coach or not, with the way the talent continues to pour in from the recruiting trail, he is going to be here for a long while.

  11. According to reports, they are still looking at signing one or two more for 2011. If they do and if no one is leaving the program, that will put us at 17 or 18 for 2012.
