LIVE: Jeremy Hollowell’s decision (Hollowinning: Enter the Ninja V)

Below is Dustin’s Twitter stream as we report live from Lawrence Central at 3:30, when Jeremy Hollowell is expected to announce he will attend Indiana. I have the video camera, so I’ll post video ASAP.

  1. In the immortal words of Bob ‘Slick’ Leonard:

    Boom Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to IU, Jeremy. It’s a wise choice you’ve made. An Indiana kid helping lead Indiana back to national prominence will subsequently enjoy a lifetime of goodwill from the entire state. Nothing substitutes for that, in the long run.

  2. So the question (or problem as it maybe but it is a good one to have) is how do the minutes for the #2 and #3 spots play out in the future. Sure it is nice to bask in this glory for a bit but the question (or problem) remains.

Let’s assume that Gary Harris goes elsewhere just for now. And let’s also assume that nobody leaves early (let’s also assume that Matt Roth who has his undergrad degree and will be getting his grad degree next year does not apply for a red shirt). Where does that leave IU in terms of guys that will be searching for minutes at the #2 and #3 spot? By my calculation here are the guys competing for minutes at these two spots:

    Watford (Sr.)
    Creek (Sr.)
    Oladipo (Jr.)
    Sheehey (Jr.)
    Etherington (So.)
    Patterson (Fr.)
    Hollowell (Fr.)

With Zeller (So.), Perea (Fr.), Elston (Sr.), Jurkin (Fr.) getting most of the minutes at the #4 and #5 you can see a real crunch for minutes at the #2 and #3 spots. Sometimes I guess Watford or Hollowell could get some minutes at the #4 but there are possibly some times as well that Hulls will play the #2 with Yogi at the #1.

HOW DOES THIS WORK FOR ALL OF THESE KIDS? AGAIN A GREAT PROBLEM TO HAVE BUT ONE THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED.

Now let’s hope we can get Harris. If that happens it crunches things down even further. And CTC is still hoping to add a PF or C to go with Cody and Austin for this year’s class. An additional crunch on available minutes.

I would be very interested to hear thoughts on how those minutes will all shake out when the 2012 class arrives as freshmen.

  3. Gotta luv it, baby! This is already a Top 5 recruiting class, and if IU can get Harris then it’s the hands down #1!!

  4. Rivals.com already has IU as the #1 class of 2012, before Hollowell committed! Now with JH and possibly Harris? WOW!

  5. WHATS WITH ALL THE DAM NUMBERS wHO’S A 1 WHO’S A2 hULLS PLAYED ALL OVER THE FLOOR wATFORD PLAYEED,EVERYWHERE NUMBERS MEAN NOTHING PLAY THEM WHEREEVER THEY’ DO THE MOST GOOD . wE HAVE BECOME NUMBER CRAZY.
GOOD TEAMS PLAYERS PLAY ALL OVER THE DAM FLOOR. wHAT A SHOOTING GUARD HELL ALL GUARDS WANT TO SHOOT.

    GET REAL

  6. Too soon to wonder about that, Beard. Lots of time between now and then. These players all know the same list for spots that you mentioned and it they aren’t worried about it, then neither am I. Defense will determine who will play the most, but they’ll all play and if the team is winning and heading for a Final Four, they’ll all be happy.

  7. From a minutes perspective, I don’t anticipate an issue. Tragically, I just don’t see Maurice Creek ever recovering from his injuries enough to be a real contributor at IU again. I also don’t see Watford as a #2 or #3. If he continues his maturation process on the pace he has thus far, I think he will likely move on to the NBA after next season. Sheehey and Oladipo will be strong bench players that provide the depth necessary to be a true contender.

Yogi Ferrell will become the starting #1 with Hulls filling the backup role nicely.

  8. Watford leave early for the NBA? I doubt it. Maybe if the pace of maturation is geometric rather than incremental, and he has yet to show that.

  9. This is a problem that Duke, UNC, and, maybe, Kansas always have to deal with. It will work itself out.

  10. This is too easy. Recruit 4 and 5 star players. Unite them with a common cause to compete and win as a team. Who cares about minutes played. Minutes played is an example of selfish individualism which is a cancer to a team sport. The coach needs to instill the importance to his players that basketball.. at every level is still a team sport. If the players are playing as one unit.. and are competing as one unit.. and are winning as one unit.. than who cares about minutes!! Go Coach Go. Get more talent and mold them into a cohesive unit!! That is what a premier team in D 1 College does!!

  11. Well, this should quiet the naysayers about Crean’s ability to recruit top notch players. But, knowing people can be in denial one way or the other, they’ll rationalize this away somehow.

    I for one can’t wait.
