Makanjuola off the market

Yemi Makanjuola, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward from Word of God Academy in Raleigh, N.C., who had taken a visit to Indiana, committed to Tennessee on Tuesday.

Makanjuola is the second big man IU has targeted to commit elsewhere since Sunday. Ibrahima Djimde, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound from Huntington (W.Va.) Prep who had scheduled a visit to Indiana for May 13-15, signed with Illinois on Monday.

The Hoosiers are currently at their scholarship limit for 2011, but they are allowed an oversign by Big Ten rules and they have been in the market for a big man. Whether they will continue to pursue one for this year is uncertain.

  1. Oh well OSD could not pronounce or spell either one’s name. If Illinois took the one guy he either can’t be that good or he is a head case. Those are the only guys Weber gets.

  2. ^^^I also like McGary..He seems to be getting much more attention on the rankings sites so it appears the competition to land him is growing. I’ve watched some clips on Mitch McGary and he really gets up and down the court and has exceptional ball skills for a big kid. He brings a little different style…He’s wide like a Clydesdale, but possesses some surprising quickness….a bit of Dave DeBusschere old school look to his game housed inside a beast of a southpaw frame(Yo, Adrian). He also reminds me of a more handsome version of Luke Harangody(Yo, ugly)..Mitch has fast hands that can snatch boards quickly ..turns his shoulders in a flash and can either take the ball out of the congestion on his own or look for the quick outlet. Strong. He’s from the stomping grounds my youth so I might be letting some personal bias get in the way a more objective assessment. That bias aside, I think McGary could be an interesting complimentary force that could give defenses fits because his unique contrasting style to those set to arrive in the Hoosiers inside lineup currently under construction.

  3. I agree. Mitch McGary would be a great player for the Hoosiers. I don’t think we offered him a scholarship yet. Anybody know why we haven’t?

  4. I’m guessing it’d have to do with grades… Considering the schools that have offered him are low-standard….

  5. Just reading for the past year on him..he never seems interested in IU to me. Maybe I have missed something…

  6. IU is still in on McGary. Not sure if he has a formal offer, but from what I’ve heard, the Hoosiers certainly want him. But remember, he went to Brewster Academy and reclassified for 2012, and he had to do that because of grades.

  7. Yemi Makanjuola has not committed to officially committed to Tennessee, the school said he is still weighing his options.
