IDS report: IU athletic department, division of student affairs investigating use of gay slur on assistant wrestling coaches Twitter account

Indiana’s athletic department and the IU Division of Student Affairs is investigating the use of a gay slur on the Twitter account of assistant coach Nick Simmons, according to this report from Max McCombs of the Indiana Daily Student.

J.D. Campbell, assistant athletic director of media relations, confirmed that the athletic department is aware of the matter.

According to McCombs’ report, the post in question appeared at approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday morning and has since been removed. Someone going only by the name ‘Brett’ claiming to be a friend of Simmons emailed outsports.com and took responsibility for the tweet, saying he had taken Simmons’ phone.

Simmons was a four-time All-American at Michigan State and the U.S. alternate in the 55 kg weight class for men’s freestyle wrestling at the 2012 London Olympics. Simmons is entering his first season as an IU coach after being hired June 4.

  1. This is a weird story. And, not to be that guy, but it should be “coach’s” in the headline, not “coaches”.
