Loukas advances to diving semifinals at Olympics

Former Indiana diver Christina Loukas placed seventh in the preliminary round in 3-meter springboard diving and advanced to the semifinals. The release from IU athletics follows.

Loukas Finishes 7th in Olympic Prelims, Moves on to Semifinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University graduate and 2009 NCAA Champion Christina Loukas is one step closer to an Olympic medal after a seventh-place finish in the 3-meter springboard preliminary round Friday morning at the Aquatics Centre in London.

Loukas led the American contingent with a score of 330.45, placing her seventh in the 30-person field. The top-16 competitors advance to the semifinals, which will take place Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET. Loukas’ teammate Cassidy Krug also advanced to the semifinals, coming in 10th with 320.10 points.

Loukas was a four-year letterwinner at Indiana (2005-07, 09), earning six Big Ten titles and 11 All-America honors. She was named the Big Ten Diver of the year in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Loukas redshirted the 2007-08 season as she prepared for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
