Brief notes from Kevin Wilson’s teleconference with more to come later. Wilson said linebacker Chase Hoobler will not play Saturday because of a continuing nerve issue in his neck/back. The quarterback competition between Cameron Coffman and Nate Sudfeld is also still continuing into Thursday. Wilson said they’ve stayed even throughout the week. He continues to be pleased with both and thrilled with neither. More to come.
Update: Wilson on Hoobler: “He still hasn’t been full-go contact, so he’s going to be out for this contest.”
Wilson on quarterbacks: “We don’t sit there and chart stats, but they’re both practicing well and getting work and looking OK. We’ll see how tomorrow goes. I don’t know if that means both of them play or one goes first or second. We’ll see as time goes forward. They’re both practicing reasonably well. They’re getting better, and you watch them play, they’re both doing a lot of good things. Does that mean both of them play? I don’t necessarily know. Right now, no one is doing poorly. I like to see them both do better, but they’re both doing the one thing I’m asking, which they’re working hard every day. They’re getting better every day. They’re sitting there yesterday in my office watching tape together and I walk in and they’re both asking each other questions and making points. They’re both helping each other out. We’ll wait. If something Earth-shattering happens tomorrow, if not we’ll just talk to the coaches. Somebody will go first. We’ll play the game and see how it goes. I expect both of them to play well. We need them both. Like I said Week 1, they’re gonna get a big-time challenge this week. Like I said Week 1, we’re not gonna have a chance to win football games if we don’t have big-time quarterback play.”
