Effross named Freshman All-American

Indiana relief pitcher Scott Effross was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Effross is 6-1 with a 1.97 earned run average this year and five saves. The press release from IU follows.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana pitcher Scott Effross picked up Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America accolades on Tuesday (June 5), selected by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Effross becomes the ninth Hoosier to do so in the last six seasons, including at least one IU rookie in each year of the six-season stretch.

Effross enters the Super Regionals with 6-1 record and 1.97 earned run average in a team-high 26 relief appearances spanning 59.1 innings. He’s gathered five saves and the opposition is batting just .206 against him. Effross has tallied 33 strikeouts during his first campaign donning the Cream and Crimson. The 26 appearances are tied for the fifth-most ever at IU for a single season.

The Twinsburg, Ohio native was also voted as the second-best relief pitcher in the Big Ten, earning a slot on the Second Team All-Big Ten and conference’s All-Freshman squad.
