Indiana vs. Oregon State, College World Series

Bottom 9th: Sam Travis managed a two-out single, but nick Ramos grounded to third to end it. Oregon State wins 1-0. IU is eliminated. More to come.

Top 9th: Aaron Slegers struck out two more in the ninth. Has pitched a whale of a game. IU down to its final three outs down 1-0.


Bottom 8th: Casey Smith had a one-out single but was stranded on a strikeout by Justin Cureton. OSU leads 1-0.

Top 8th: Aaron Slegers is pitching the game of his life and he’s losing. Just struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 eighth. Getting stronger. He’s only thrown 100 pitches and 67 of those have been strikes. Eight of the balls were actually intentional. Oregon State still leads 1-0.


Bottom 7th: You know the story. Matt Boyd. Still cruising. 1-2-3 seventh. Eight strikeouts. OSU leads 1-0.


Top 7th: Oregon States Jeff Hendrix managed an infield single with one out, but Michael Basil and Chad Clark turned a nifty 6-4-3 double play to end it. OSU still leads 1-0, however.


Bottom 6th: Justin Cureton drew a leaddoff walk, but Chris Sujka flied to right and Kyle Schwarber grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the sixth. OSU leads 1-0.


Top 6th: Aaron Slegers posted his second straight 1-2-3 inning in the sixth. He’s thrown 79 pitches so far, 51 for strikes. Still down 1-0.


Bottom 5th: Michael Basil broke up Boyd’s no-hitter with a one-out single and third baseman Dustin DeMuth got his first hit of the CWS on a push bunt, but Casey Smith flied out to right and Chad Clark popped up to third to end the inning. OSU leads 1-0.


Top 5th: Aaron Slegers got his first 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fifth. IU first baseman Sam Travis made a diving play at first to rob Michael Conforto of extra bases and IU right fielder Casey Smith went to the warning track and caught a fly ball off the bat of Dylan Davis while falling down.


Bottom 4th: Matt Boyd still hasn’t given up a hit. Chris Sujka struck out, Kyle Schwarber grounded to second and Sam Travis flied out to end the inning. OSU still up 1-0.


Top 4th: Oregon State broke the tie in the fourth. Kavin Keyes led off with a single. Designated hitter Ryan Barnes drew Iu third baseman Dustin DeMuth in witha fake bunt and roped a double down the line right past him to put runners on second and third. Catcher Jake Rodriguez then flied to right to bring Barnes home and OSU leads 1-0.


Bottom 3rd:Matt Boyd is still dealing. He struck out Casey Smith and Chad Clark to start the inning and increase his strikeout streak to five before walking Justin Cureton. He then picked off Cureton.Boyd has faced the minimum and IU has put the ball in play once. Scoreless after 3.


Top 3rd: Slegers gave up a two-out double to Michael Conforto and then intentionally walked Dylan Davis again, but Danny Hayes flew to left to end the seventh. Scoreless after 2 1/2.


Bottom 2nd: Indiana continues to struggle to put the ball in play against lefties. Matt Boyd struck out the side in the second, getting Dustin DeMuth looking at a curveball, Michael Basil swinging and Dustin DeMuth swinging at a ball in the dirt. Scoreless through 2.


Top 2nd: Aaron Slegers is finding a groove early, though he’s allowed the leadoff hitter to reach in both innings. Kavin Keyes led off the second with a single and moved to second on a hit-and-run, but Slegers struck out Jake Rodriguez and then got Jeff Hendrix to fly to right to end the inning. Casey Smith and Chad Clark collided on the play, but Smith held on. Scoreless after 1 1/2.


Bottom 1st: Chris Sujka drew a leadoff walk to start the inning, but Kyle Schwarber struck out for the seventh time in the CWS and Sam Travis flew out to right. Sujka was then picked off to end the inning.


Top 1st: Aaron Slegers gave up a leadoff single to Tyler Smith and Andy Peterson bunted Smith to second, but left fielder Michael Conforto grounded to first. Slegers intentionally walked Dylan Davis, but Danny Hayes popped to short to end the inning.
