Hoetzel commits to Indiana

Per multiple reports, the first coming from Paul Biancardi of ESPN, Max Hoetzel, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound swingman from Wilbraham and Monson Academy in Massachusetts, has committed to Indiana. Hoetzel, a teammate of former IU target Goodluck Okonoboh, mostly had offers from mid-major West Coast schools including Cal Poly, Loyola Marymount, Pacific and San Diego as well as Utah, but had been hearing from bigger schools since his transfer across the country from Calabasas, Calif. for prep school.

Hoetzel is the second member of the Class of 2014 to commit to the Hoosiers, joining Robert Johnson of Virginia.

  1. Great! I think he will be a good shooter and surprise some people. Now we need to get Devin Robinson and there won’t be room at the Hall for Lyle and Blackmon.

  2. It’s refreshing to see players jump at the chance to become Hoosiers instead of wanting us to “show them love” like the kids who grew up in Indiana. This reminds me of how Luke committed.

  3. couldn’t agree more with osd and aruss. hope this shuts the door on Blackmon and his Josie and the pussycats hair. lyle can take his act somewhere else, too.

  4. Wow…IU offers this kid 3 days before the Devin Robinson announcement – not a good sign. I was thinking that both Robinson and Blackmon might commit to IU this week…now I’m doubtful IU gets either of them.

  5. A LITTLE SCARY SO QUICK ! But after watching his video he can shoot the ball! I am worried about DEVIN ROBINSON it would be a shame to lose a kid of his character and talent this late in the game has anyone heard anything? He would complete a nice class! Blackmon is gone ! Lyle changes his mind daily.

  6. I wouldn’t even accept a commitment from Lyle right now. He is reminding me too much of Gunner Keil when he was flip flopping all over the place. If a kid can’t make this decision, what kind of decision maker is he going to be on the court and when the game is on the line.

  7. Got to love Hoetzel’s attitude about IU. And attitude and commitment are huge factors in a person’s success.

  8. Why don’t some people understand that their negativity only hurts attracting athletes to IU? Expressing hatred towards athletes turns other potential recruits away. Us graduates and/or fans aren’t the only ones who read these posts.

  9. ab94,

that’s exactly the point. a kid who grew up in Indiana and thinks the grass is greener elsewhere doesn’t belong at iu. I, for one, would rather have max, who said taking his first shot at assembly hall was a magical moment. give me a team of them and you can have your lyles and blackmons.

  10. IT LOOKS LIKE DR IS A FLA. LEAN? INDIANA WAS 100 PERCENT UNTIL HE VISITED FLA. NOW INDIANA IS 66 PERCENT PREDICTED BY 247 SPORTS BUT THEY MISS AS MANY AS THEY GET! WHY IS BLACKMON STILL HANGING AROUND? IS THIS THE SLOW NO FOR US OR IS HE CHECKING THE KENTUCKY RECRUITS FOR PLAYING TIME? THEY ARE LOADED! HE COULD BE A STAR AT IU ,JUST ANOTHER ONE AND DONE AT KY! ROBINSON IS A GREAT GET,BUT AFTER SAYING THAT WHY DO WE GRAB A SIMILAR TYPE PLAYER UNLESS WE ARE ALREADY OUT AND CTC KNOWS IT?

  11. If you watch many of these videos closely, it’s evident that they often loop the same footage. All these YouTube clips begin to look the same…Kids burying shot after shot set to rap songs with Star Wars styled intros across a black screen to prepare yourself for the next dork that’s soon to be Larry Bird.

Reminds me a lot of the Jonny Marlin mix tape set to rap. They’re all rather comical. And we wonder why the rest of the world is blowing us away in math and science…? Our diet for the sell and for the superficial is endless. YouTube, the next big video game obsession on your XBox, Twitter, Facebook….All the developers these addictive sites and obsessions for the self-consumed is the darkness our last breath of any hope at world competitiveness. Ironic that many of the geeks that ruined youth with these compulsions that allow a user to superficially glorify their human existence were Ivy League dropouts.

Will somebody please do me a favor and put together a three minute video of Michael Jordan putting up nothing but bricks..?

And when are one of these kids going to get creative and set their 20 or so swishes, three turnaround jumpers, and two dunks during their four years of high school to a perfect basketball, perfect day, perfect song?

  12. Some of you people must rank amongst the most miserable on the planet. Are you guys this cynical and hateful in real life too, or just on the internet?

Now what I am hearing you say is that you think that anyone who doesn’t want to play at IU is a lesser individual.

My point is why must anyone be scornfully ridiculed on this site for choosing to attend another university? When other kids see IU fans make vicious comments towards kids that considered, but chose not to attend IU, they probably get turned off or scared away.
