IU women exhibition vs. Georgetown (Ky.)

FINAL: INDIANA 79, GEORGETOWN 55. Kaila Hulls double-double (13 points, 12 boards) leads Hoosiers. Larryn Brooks adds 13 points and Taylor Agler finishes with 10 points and a team-high 9 assists.

Under-4: Indiana 72, Georgetown 49. Taylor Agler is one assist away form becoming the second Hoosier with a double-double. She has 10 points and nine assists.

Under-8: Indiana 65, Georgetown 44. Kaila Hulls with a game-high 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Indiana boosts its lead to 62-44 with 8:11 to play in this one. It’s been a nice game for Taylor Agler. She really sees the floor well and has a knack for making the right pass. Comes from a basketball family, as her father, Brian, is general manager of the WNBA’s Seattle Storm.

Under-12: Kaila Hulls picks up the double-double after hitting a pair of free throws that bring her to 12 points. She also has 10 rebounds — six on the offensive end. Larryn Brooks, Taylor Agler and Hulls have each logged at least 20 minutes for IU tonight.

Under-16: Indiana 42, Georgetown 34. Tigers were within six a moment ago. Not that it matters, but yeah. We’ve seen everybody, but the two walk-ons up to this point. Also, Claire Jakubicek, but we won’t see her at all this year after she tore her ACL in the spring.

HALFTIME: Indiana 40, Georgetown 28. Tabitha Gerardot leads IU with eight points and Larryn Brooks has seven. Brooks is shooting 2-of-8 from the field, as is Kaila Hulls, who has five points and a team-best seven rebounds. Taylor Agler leads the team with six assists. Hoosiers have 14 assists against five turnovers. We’ve seen a lot of different lineup combinations so far, but Curt Miller went with 4-of-5 from his starting lineup late in the half.

Under-4: Indiana 38, Georgetown 22

For all Brooks does in transition, on defense and at the point, isn’t a particularly good shooter. Or maybe it’s an off-night. Or something.

Under-8: Indiana 34, Georgetown 16. Eight Hoosiers with at least a basket. Gerardot with 6 pts so far.

Under-12: IU 26, Georgetown 11. It’s all freshmen, and Milika Taufa, on the floor now.

So, at least early on against an NAIA opponent, IU’s freshman class — the first true recruiting class of the Curt Miller era — looks pretty darn good. Agler and Brooks have each had their moments running the point.

Under-16: IU up 15-7 after a wide-open 3pter in the corner by Kaila Hulls. After 2 years of injury, that had to feel good.

The freshmen are making an impact early, helping IU race out to a 7-2 lead to start the game. Larryn Brooks is going to make things go for this offense this year. She’s super quick and seems to have great vision.

Larryn Brooks, Taylor Agler, Tabitha Gerardot, Kaila Hulls and Sasha Chaplin are the starters for Indiana. First collegiate game experience for Brooks, Agler and Hulls.

PREGAME: Women’s basketball season tips tonight, with IU’s exhibition against Georgetown Collge (Ky.). Tonight’s the first look at Curt Miller’s six scholarship freshmen. I’ll have updates and observations here and on Twitter, where you can find me at @BowieMike. Also, Larryn Brooks dyed her mohawk red. Just so you know.

  1. Was at the game last night. Although I have no idea how good Georgetown is supposed to be, I was very impressed with IU’s team! They were very unselfish, at one time in the game halfway through the second half, they had 18 assists on 21 baskets. The team rebounded very well. The freshmen were for the most part very impressive! Taylor Agler is the real deal, missed a double, double by one assist. Brooks will be a handful for anyone! Her quickness is very impressive! It was very cool to see Hulls have such a good game after all she has been through the last two years. She certainly has a nose for the ball as evidenced by her offensive rebounding. Although her stats didn’t show it, I am very intrigued by Leikem who I think will provide big minutes this year, very versitle inside and out. I think the X-factor this year down the road could be Anderson. A big body who will not be intimidated inside. The most solid player on the team although she had a poor shooting night may be Tabitha Gerardot whose experience will be incredibly important to this team! Very tough physically, good rebounder and underrated offensively.

Coach Miller’s recruiting class looks like it is going to reap benefits in a hurry! I certainly am not going to predict this year’s record but, this is going to be a fun team to watch, although their shooting percentage was not high last night, it was the first game and I am sure the freshmen had nerves coming in. It is quite apparent that we have some girls that can actually shoot the basketball which is something we lacked last year other than Aulani. Make sure to come out and watch this very entertaining team. Go Hoosiers!
