DeMuth goes in fifth round to Milwaukee Brewers

Indiana third baseman Dustin DeMuth was taken in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, becoming the third Indiana player taken in this year’s draft. DeMuth was taken in the eighth round by the Minnesota Twins last year and turned down a signing bonus of $158,000, but might end up making close to that money now, even though he has no bargaining leverage and likely won’t get slot money for the pick.

DeMuth was a third-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten pick this season after hitting .374 with five home runs and 40 RBI. He finished his career as the second all-time leader in school history in hits with 316. He hit .344 for his career and set the all-time school record in doubles with 63.
