Men’s, women’s basketball schedules released

The Big Ten released Indiana’s upcoming men’s basketball conference schedule on Thursday, with a New Year’s Eve matchup at Nebraska set to open the slate.

The Hoosiers’ Big Ten home opener won’t come until Jan. 10 against Ohio State. After playing Purdue only once last season, Indiana will get the Boilermakers twice this year. The rivalry will be renewed on Jan. 28 in West Lafayette, followed by the Boilers return to Assembly Hall on Feb. 19. Times and television assignments will be announced at a later date.

Indiana will also welcome Maryland and Rutgers to the conference with a home-and-home series. IU hosts Maryland on Jan. 22 and travels to College Park, Md. on Feb. 11. Rutgers comes to Bloomington on Jan. 31, followed by Indiana’s return trip to New Jersey on Feb. 22.

IU will also have home-and-home series with Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue. Single road games include Nebraska, Illinois, Northwestern and Wisconsin. Single meetings at Assembly Hall include Penn State, Michigan, Minnesota and Iowa. Indiana is scheduled to appear on ESPN’s Super Tuesday twice, including games at Wisconsin (Feb. 3) and at home against Iowa (March 3).

“The trip to Canada really gave us an opportunity to gain invaluable experience,” IU coach Tom Crean said in a statement. “With that and your pre-conference schedule, you want your team to better itself by going against a lot of different styles of play.”

The Hoosiers’ full non-conference schedule has yet to be released, but some of the games have already been unveiled. Indiana will host Southern Methodist in November and bring Pittsburgh to Assembly Hall for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in December. IU will also play two games in Madison Square Garden, including a game against Louisville on Dec. 9 in the Jimmy V Classic and against Georgetown on Dec. 27. The Hoosiers get Butler in this season’s Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis on Dec. 20.

“I think our fans are going to enjoy the home schedule, with teams they have not seen before like Pittsburgh, SMU, Rutgers and Maryland as well as old rivals like Purdue, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa and Minnesota. We have had some amazing games against those teams in Assembly Hall and I would expect more of the same this season.”

The Big Ten Tournament will be March 11-15 at the United Center in Chicago.

The women’s program released its full schedule on Thursday. Indiana will open the regular season on Nov. 15 against Gardner-Webb at a time to be determined. It will be the first of 17 home games for the Hoosiers, including eight non-conference matchups and nine Big Ten contests.

New IU women’s coach Teri Moren will host her former program, Indiana State, on Nov. 30. IU will be home for the entire month of November before hitting the road for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Boston College on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.

“We are excited to play 17 games in front of our home fans and to start the year with eight of our 11 non-conference games in Assembly Hall,” Moren said in a statement. “We realize the Big Ten schedule is tough, but we look forward to the challenge of competing night in and night out against some of the best teams in the country.”

  1. Early take on team Brooks is a lock of course at the point and look for Agler to move over as her back up followed by Nikki then Buss, Off guard Agler with Jess and Maura getting lots of minutes here, Alexis at the three of course again with Jess and Maura getting minutes and Hulls if Healthy, Leikem at the 4 Amanda good backup here with Clair sneaking in minutes and finally Stratman at the 5 although I heard she is recently injured Jenn getting minutes but don’t be surprised if Leikem and Amanda are in a lot together If Startman is healthy she will play for sure

  2. Any idea when they will finalize the rest? We are planning a trip up in early November and anxious to know when the Texas Southern game will be for example.
