What’s on tap for Thursday, chat reminder

Morning, all. I’m currently sitting in the terminal at the Indianapolis Airport, waiting to get my sojourn to Montreal underway.

It’s a travel day for me, so we’re pushing the chat back to Friday. Same chat time (11 a.m.), same chat place (heraldtimesonline.com). Just as a reminder, our weekly chats are free for non-subscribers of the H-T. Hope you’ll stop by.

While I’m gone this week, Andy Graham and sports department newcomer Jon Blau will be keeping an eye on IU football. I believe there is some media availability coming in the next few days, so they’ll have the latest from preseason camp.

Jeremy Price will have the latest on Indiana’s search for a women’s basketball coach, and I might chime in at some point, too. Last night, I spoke with Indiana State athletic director Ron Prettyman, who confirmed that Sycamores coach Teri Moren is a candidate for the IU position. Moren has been a head coach for 11 seasons, including seven at Indianapolis and four at ISU. She has a 199-130 overall record, and is 69-57 at Indiana State.

And because I know someone will mention it: yes, she is a Purdue grad.

“She’s done a great job for us,” Prettyman said. “She has a great opportunity at Indiana, but we hope she stays at Indiana State for a long, long time.”

Did you know that the IU men will be using FIBA rules for their five-game, six-day Canadian swing? That means games consisting of four 10-minute quarters, a 24-second clock and a 22-foot 3-point line.

I’ll check in later today with more news and notes ahead of IU’s first foreign trip since 2007.

For now, it’s time to board.
