Oakes named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week

Indiana kicker Griffin Oakes earned Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.

Oakes hit his first three field goals from 38, 48 and a school-record 58 yards in Saturday’s loss to Maryland. The redshirt freshman is the first Indiana player to earn the league’s special teams award since kicker Mitch Ewald on Oct. 21, 2013.
