Indiana senior safety Mark Murphy earned his second consecutive selection to the Capital One Academic All-American team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Murphy boasts a 3.85 grade point average in Indiana’s School of Informatics, and is a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, awarded annually to college football’s top scholar athlete. He is the third Hoosier to earn the honor twice, joining Will Meyers (2005-05) and John Hammerstein (1994-95). Nine IU players have been selected to the list in program history.
Murphy finished his career with 279 tackles, 174 solo stops, seven for a loss, four interceptions and two interceptions returned for scores. He made 11 starts this season, making 49 tackles, 2.5 for a loss and picking off two passes.
