IUWBB: IU at Purdue

With 7:43 left, Purdue has pushed its lead to 72-48. Whitney Bays has 25 points. Jenn Anderson has 10 points for the Hoosiers, and Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill have 9 points apeice. Cahill also has 11 rebounds, one point away from her sixth double-double.

With 12:03 left, IU trails 57-40. Jess Walter just came down the floor and pulled up for a 3. The Hoosiers would need a heckuva run to win this one, but it’s still important that they finish strong.

HALFTIME: Purdue 40, Indiana 24

Not a good half for the Hoosiers, at all. They picked up 13 fouls. They made 2-of-15 from 3-point distance. They are near even with Purdue on the glass, down 22-20, but Purdue has 13 second-chance points. Everything is going Purdue’s way right now.

Bridget Perry, one of three Boilermakers in double figures, hit a baseline jumper with time expiring in the first half. The Mooresville-product has 10 points, while forward Whitney Bays leads all scorers with 12.

Larryn Brooks and Jenn Anderson have six points apiece for IU.

With 3:39 remaining in the first half, Purdue has built a 32-18 lead. The last set of plays sums up this game pretty well. Whitney Bays just bulled her way to the basket and was fouled (IU’s 12th), and she hit the and-1 free throw. Larryn Brooks came down on the other end and missed Tyra Buss on a pass, throwing it into the Purdue bench. IU has seven turnovers, but many more sloppy possessions and bad shots.

With 7:05 left in the first half, Purdue holds a 25-16 lead. IU has looked frazzled, turning the ball over, taking 3s that are not falling, and Purdue’s Bridget Perry has been able to get her shot underneath. The Hoosiers are 0-of-8 from 3-point range and they have 10 fouls to Purdue’s five.

Five minutes in, Purdue holds a 9-8 lead. IU has led much of the game, leading 6-2 at one point after strong drives by Larryn Brooks. One, she banked off the glass. The second, she hit Jenn Anderson on a pick-and-roll.

But Purdue’s Ashley Morrissette hit a 3-pointer, and strong inside play by Bridget Perry and Whitney Bays have put Purdue ahead.

STARTERS FOR IU (not that they ever change, but, nevertheless): Fs Amanda Cahill and Jenn Anderson, Gs Larryn Brooks, Taylor Agler and Tyra Buss.
