Cangelosi, Hobbie earn weekly Big Ten honors #iubase

A big weekend capped a fine week for the Indiana duo of Austin Cangelosi and Brian Hobbie.

Cangelosi earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors after batting .500 in four games last week, helping the Hoosiers go 5-0 and reclaim a spot in the national top 25 polls. On the mound, Hobbie picked up the league’s Freshman of the Week award after he earned two consecutive wins against Eastern Michigan and Cal State Fullerton, while yielding zero runs.

Cangelosi, the son of former big league outfielder John, drove in four runs and scored four more while belting a home run and a pair of triples. His two-run homer in the eighth inning of game two in Saturday’s doubleheader lifted IU to a 2-0 win.

Hobbie, a right-handed freshman, started IU’s home opener Tuesday against the Eagles and struck out a career-high seven batters.
