Hoosiers close series with Eastern Michigan #iubase

FINAL: Indiana 9, Eastern Michigan 1. Ryan Halstead tossed a clean ninth to end it for the Hoosiers, who have now won seven in a row. IU finished with 10 hits — two each from Brian Wilhite and Casey Rodrigue, who each homered. Evan Bell gets the win for Indiana, which hosts Cal State Fullerton for a three-game set this weekend.

Eighth inning
Ryan Halstead comes in to replace Foote with a perfect inning. IU pitchers have now retired seven batters in a row. In the bottom half, Laren Eustace drove in Isaiah Pasteur on a double to right-centerfield. Indiana 8, Eastern Michigan 1.

Seventh inning
Casey Rodrigue, who has found his power stroke over the first month, hit his third home run of the season — a two-run shot — to give IU a seven-run cushion. Bell finishes after four innings, yielding one unearned run on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Left-hander Austin Foote comes on to replace him and authors a perfect inning. Indiana 8, Eastern Michigan 1.

Sixth inning
Evan Bell, who has pitched well over his four innings out of the pen, yields Eastern Michigan’s first run of the day on a hard single into a shift that Rodrigue couldn’t corral in shallow right field. Indiana 6, Eastern Michigan 1.

Fifth inning
A double steal put two runs in scoring position with one out for Brad Hartong, who delivered with a two-run single through the middle. It was another clean top half for Bell, who has now retired seven batters in a row after his bases-loaded jam in the third. Indiana 6, Eastern Michigan 0.

Fourth inning
Quick and easy inning for Evan Bell, who retires the side in order. The Hoosiers go down 1-2-3 in their half, too.Indiana 4, Eastern Michigan 0.

Third inning
Evan Bell is the first out of the pen in what will surely be a big bullpen day for Indiana. Bell replaces Kyle Hart who went two scoreless innings, yielded two hits and struck out two. Bell got out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam with a foul pop fly to first base and a 6-4 fielder’s choice. Indiana 4, Eastern Michigan 0.

Second inning
Eastern Michigan got one runner on after a one-out throwing error by Nick Ramos, but Hart escaped the inning without further damage. He closed the frame with a strikeout, his second, on a fastball down the middle of the plate. Hart sat between 85-88 miles per hour with his fastball, while showing off a slider and a changeup, which looked particularly nice at times. Hart has thrown 37 pitches, 25 for strikes and will likely take a seat for the rest of the afternoon. Brian Wilhite added a three-run homer, the first of his career, in the bottom half of the inning.Indiana 4, Eastern Michigan 0.

First inning
In his first inning of work since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April, Kyle Hart pitching a scoreless opening frame. Hart allowed a pair of singles, but escaped a jam when both runners reached scoring position. A two-strike changeup ended the inning with a strikeout for Hart, who threw 23 pitches, 14 strikes. In the bottom half, Casey Rodrigue scored the game’s first run on a fielding error by shortstop David Lett. Indiana 1, Eastern Michigan 0.
