IU and Ball State agree to 3-game series

Indiana won’t have an in-state non-conference opponent on its football schedule this year for the first time in five seasons.

But that will change soon enough.

IU announced Monday that it has agreed to a three-game series with Ball State for games spanning 2018-20. Indiana will host the 2018 and 2019 games, while Ball State works on an agreement with Lucas Oil Stadium to host the 2019 contest in Indianapolis.

The Hoosiers lead the all-time series 4-3, but have lost each of the last three meetings. The two programs last met on Sept. 15, 2012, when the Cardinals used a late field goal to win 41-39.

“We are thrilled to continue this series with Ball State,” IU athletic director Fred Glass said in a statement. “It’s great for the fans of both programs and playing another state school has the added benefit of our financial support remaining within the state of Indiana.”
