Report: Howard could miss remainder of spring #iufb

Jordan Howard’s first spring in Bloomington could be over.

ESPN’s Brian Bennett is reporting that Howard is dealing with an elbow injury that could sideline him for the remainder of Indiana’s spring practice. Howard’s injury comes virtually at the midway point of the spring session, after the junior running back transferred from UAB in January.

That means sophomore Devine Redding is likely to receive the bulk of the touches with the first group moving forward. IU running backs coach Deland McCullough said Redding was already taking over as the vocal leader inside the team’s meeting room, but he’ll have a chance to show more on the field over the next week and a half.

Redding rushed for each of IU’s 118 returning yards from last fall, appearing in 10 games and scoring one touchdown.

“The guy’s explosive,” McCullough said of Redding last week. “He’s a good player. His leadership has been excellent since Tevin (Coleman) left. Soon as Tevin left, Devine took the leadership reigns and ran with them. Being consistent on the field, his work ethic is unbelievable.

Tommy Mister is also in the mix at running back as he works his way back from ACL surgery last fall. Walk-ons Andrew Wilson and Alex Rodriguez have also added depth this spring.

  1. I hope this injury doesn’t carry through Summer. This program will need this young man healthy and ready to roll in order to continue moving forward. It’s great to hear Devine Redding stepped into the breach when TeCo left. Redding definitely contributed last season, and I expect him to take another step in ’15. Go Hoosiers!!!
