Report: IU to host Creighton for Gavitt Tipoff

Not all Big Ten teams will participate in the first year of the Gavitt Tipoff Games, but Indiana has reportedly received an invite.

CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported Monday that IU is scheduled to host Creighton for the innaugural Gavitt games, which pits the Big Ten against the Big East. The Gavitt Tipoff Games, which honor the memory of Dave Gavitt, the first comissioner of the Big Teast, will be staged during the first full week of the season beginning in 2015-16.

Two games will be played between Big Ten and Big East schools on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Big East home games will be broadcast by FOX Sports 1, while Big Ten home games will be carried by either BTN or ESPN.

The Blue Jays finished 14-19 last season and lose their top scorer, Austin Chatman, and top rebounder, Devin Brooks, to graduation.

Rothstein also reports St. John’s will host Rutgers at Madison Square Garden and Providence will host Illinois.

  1. Thon maker has IU as 1 of his top 4(pUKe, KU, ASU). But he wants to play only 1 semester(2nd). Put me down for a NO. No off season workouts, no preseason and how about the scholastic side of the opportunity. Way too selfish for IU standards.

  2. I agree. That might even dip below UK standards, if that is possible.

WTF is THAT about? One and done is a bit offensive, IMHO, but that is beyond the pale. I hope no one takes him up on that. If that is truly the case than Mr. Maker has lowered the bar for crassness from a high school player.

Where did you come across that little tidbit of information?

  3. Chet, JP is right, although I did pick it up somewhere else.. It proves common sense no longer common? He should be left standing a all 4 alters I really do not think Bobby Hurley would be anxious enough in his new HC job at ASU to take him. At least I hope I’m right. I like him a lot.
