Wisconsin at IU soccer

Wisconsin proves dangerous down the stretch, pressuring through much of the final 15 minutes, but Indiana holds on to claim the 700th win in program history, just the fifth Division I program to that mark and surpassing UCLA as fastest to the milestone, doing so in 953 matches. IU finishes with a 16-5 edge in shots, 6-2 in corner kicks. Colin Webb with one save in the shutout. HOOSIERS 1, BADGERS 0

38:40: Indiana finally finds that breakthrough that has been so long coming. A Tanner Thompson corner kick bounces back out to his feet, and this time he finds the head of Grant Lillard at the back post. Freshman Austin Panchot vultures the goal by tapping Lillard’s header in for Panchot’s second career goal. HOOSIERS 1, BADGERS 0

You won’t see too many halves more dominating in terms of possession than that one. Wisconsin basically had just two forays into the attacking third, one ending in a header just wide left. Otherwise, Indiana controlled the ball but could not convert on what few truly dangerous opportunities there were. The best may have been in the waning seconds of the half as Kyle Sparks got to the end line on the left side and centered the ball back into the box, where Billy McConnell ripped a shot that beat the keeper but was cleared off the line by defender Adam Lauko, Andrew Gutman’s follow shot was blocked, as was McConnell’s. Hoosiers post a 10-1 advantage in shots, forcing three saves, and are up 5-1 in corner kicks. HOOSIERS 0, BADGERS 0
