IU soccer announces spring schedule

The Indiana University men’s soccer team announced its seven-game spring schedule on Tuesday, a slate that will be capped and highlighted by the Hoosiers’ annual matchup with the Mexican Youth National Team on April 24 at Armstrong Stadium.

IU actually began the spring this past weekend with a pair of 9-v-9 matches in Mellencamp Pavilion, with the Hoosiers emerging victorious in both.

Next up will be a match against the NASL’s Indy Eleven pro team on Friday in Mellencamp Pavilion. That match is closed to the public due to the lack of space.

The outdoor part of the schedule begins when SIU-Edwardsville visits Armstrong Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on April 2. Admission is free.

Indiana will then play Notre Dame in the teams’ annual spring meeting in Fort Wayne on April 19 as part of the Shindigz National Soccer Festival at the University of Saint Francis football stadium.

The Hoosiers square off against Butler at Grand Park in Westfield for the second year in a row on April 15 ahead of the spring finale against Mexico in a Sunday afternoon tilt at 2 p.m. This will be the 10th meeting between IU and a Mexican Youth National Team, with the Hoosiers sporting a 3-6 record all-time. Ticket prices and other information for the Mexico match will be available in coming weeks. Admission to the Butler match is free.

“Our spring schedule will allow our group to be challenged and tested as we look to build our team for next fall,” IU coach Todd Yeagley said in a press release. “These matches provide our staff with an opportunity to evaluate our positional depth, as well as experiment with players playing in new roles and positions. The quality opponents we face this spring will provide our team with an honest assessment as we prepare for our 2016 fall season. We are also able to play in front of large crowds on the road up in Indy and Fort Wayne, two great cities that allow our IU alumni to come out and support their IU Soccer team.”
