Boston drafts Kyle Hart in 19th round #iubase

The Boston Red Sox selected Indiana left-hander Kyle Hart in the 19th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Hart is coming off an outstanding senior season as IU’s Friday starter. He led the Big Ten with 10 wins, while finishing seventh among conference pitchers in strikeouts (79) and innings pitched (98 1/3). A First Team All-Big Ten selection, Hart often set the tone for Indiana’s weekend success in 2016, and his 31 career wins rank second in IU history.

The Cincinnati native is two years removed from Tommy John surgery, which erased the majority of his 2014 season. Hart bounced back in 2015, leading IU with a 1.21 ERA. He started IU’s NCAA Tournament opener against Radford, shutting down the Highlanders with six strikeouts in seven innings. Hart was one of the Big Ten’s top pitchers this spring, and his 237 career strikeouts rank fourth in IU history.
