Cozad, Parratto finish 7th in 10-meter synchro

Indiana divers Amy Cozad and Jessica Parratto finished seventh in the women’s synchronized 10-meter final on Tuesday at the Rio Olympics.

China’s Chen Roulin and Lui Huixia earned the gold with 354 points and Malaysia’s Pandelela Rinong and Jun Hoong secured silver with 344.34 points. Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion grabbed bronze with 336.18.

Cozad and Parratto scored 301.20 in their first Olympics. The two were in seventh place after each round.

“In this event it really depends on the day. Tomorrow there could’ve been completely different results, especially in an event like women’s platform where we are all doing the same dives,” Parratto said in a statement. “If you look at the podium, almost all of them are two or three-time Olympians. This is our first time at the Games. Give us four more years to build some experience.”

Parratto will also compete in the individual women’s 10-meter preliminaries on Aug. 17. Fellow IU diver Michael Hixon and his partner Sam Dorman will compete Wednesday in the men’s synchronized 3-meter.
