Wilson points to handful of newcomers he expects to play at FIU #iufb

Ahead of a new season, Kevin Wilson has identified at least a handful of newcomers he expects to play on Thursday at Florida International.

Wilson said on his weekly radio show Monday that freshman running back Cole Gest is “for sure” in the mix to rotate in at running back. He also sees junior college tight end Ian Thomas finding his way onto the field.

On the other side of the ball, Wilson is pointing to four players in particular. Freshman safety Marcelino Ball is projected to play Thursday both as a hybrid safety and as a special teams contributor. Khalil Bryant is behind Jonathan Crawford on the depth chart, but the freshman from Jacksonville, Fla. will also see time on special teams.

Wilson also believes freshman Allen Stallings will see time on the defensive line. Wilson says Stallings is still learning the defense, “but he’s one of our best pass rushers.”

The IU coach also mentioned walk-on linebacker Tom Bolstad as a player who could see time on special teams.
